We’re celebrating International Country Music Day on the 17th of September, which is a global nod to the artists, songwriters, and fans who’ve made the genre what it is today. And who better to chat to than one of our own team members who just so happens to be a true country music superfan?
Meet Katie Rigby. Not only does Katie pour the perfect pint behind the bar, she’s also a singer-songwriter who’s played shows across the UK (including a spot at Country To Country). Her music is inspired by modern icons like Kacey Musgraves, Hailey Whitters, and Maren Morris – but her love for the genre goes right back to her earliest memories. “For as long as I can remember, I’ve listened to storytellers. The first song I learnt to play was an old folk tune called The Fox.”
That storytelling magic is what makes country music so special. From Dolly Parton’s heartfelt ballads to Rascal Flatts’ harmonies, Katie was hooked early on by artists who know how to tell a tale with depth, soul, and unforgettable melodies.
Of course, working at Albert Hall means Katie gets to see plenty of her favourite artists live. Two that stand out? Carly Pearce and Ashley McBryde, both of whom played sold-out shows here in Manchester. “Carly Pearce’s show was so special because, despite her being unwell, she put on an amazing performance. As an artist, it was a big eye-opener to see how you can adapt and still show up under those circumstances.”
Next on her gig list? Maren Morris, who’s due to play Albert Hall soon. “I’ve never seen her live, and Albert Hall is the perfect venue for country music vibes. I think it’ll be one not to miss!”
If you’d like to hear more from Katie, you can catch her music (and plenty of behind-the-scenes moments) on TikTok, Instagram, and Spotify.
