INTERDEPENDENCE

PROVOCATIVE CONVERSATION AND NEW IDEAS

10:30AM-2PM : BSL INTERPRETED : £5 ADV (14+)

The world has never been more connected – nor more divided. The old world order is being challenged by a new populism, with fear and mistrust on both sides. And yet such uncertainty and upheaval can inspire original thinking, as genuine engagement with opposing arguments breaks down barriers, reveals our shared humanity and gives rise to bold new ideas.

Curated by MIF, FutureEverything, The Guardian and VICE, Interdependence: We Need to Talk invites you to debate today’s hot-button topics: power, heroes, community, technology, anger and change. Over six sessions, we’ll be bringing together six pairs of leading figures to explore each issue and be quizzed by you. Alongside these intimate conversations, each session will also feature discussions, performances and artist interventions.

The line-up so far includes:

Yael Bartana, artist and filmmaker
Nina Freeman, video game designer
Liam Gillick, artist
Matthew Higgs, curator
Lubaina Himid, artist and writer
Karl Hyde, musician
Rick Lowe, artist and founder of Project Row Houses
Wayne McGregor, choreographer
Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, Oscar winning documentary filmmaker
Jon Savage, writer, broadcaster & music journalist
Peter Saville, graphic designer
Nikesh Shukla & Sammy Jones, co-editors of Rife: 20 Stories from Britain’s Youth

Commissioned and produced by Manchester International Festival. In association with FutureEverything, The Guardian and VICE.
